Check out this beautiful Ms. Virginia Set in Unakite Custom Cut Polished & Wire Wrapped in Sterling Silver. This set was made the first time on Labor Day weekend 2008. Bob was wire wrapping it and was telling Miss Virginia 2008 that Unakite was the unofficial state stone of Virginia, she said yes, and the heart is for the Logo "Virginia Is for Lover's". so that is why we have always called it our Miss Virginia set. It has been an honor and has been in several publications. As of 2016, the State stone of Virginia is Nelsonite... Not as pretty. This local Virginia Stone was the Unofficial State Stone of Virginia for many years. 2016 Nelsonite was voted at the Virginia State Stone.
We pride ourselves in also going out and collecting a lot of our Virginia Stones.
If you do not like the fish hook for the earrings they can be changed to another finding... just ask... Thanks so very much.. We custom made all our jewelry. Custom cut and polish every stone and wire wrap each piece.
UNAKITE LOCALITIES
Unakite is named after the Unaka mountain range of western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee, where it was first discovered and described. Similar material is found in many other locations. It is known as the Pompton Granite in a 1/2-square-mile outcrop in the Piedmont physiographic province of New Jersey. That small area has produced architectural stone that has been used in many prominent buildings of New Jersey and surrounding states.
Many locations in the Blue Ridge physiographic Province of Virginia have been mined to produce unakite for construction, architectural, and lapidary use.
