Overall size: 1 13/16 x 5/8 inch or 46mm x 15mm

Ametrine is a rare, naturally occurring bicolor quartz that blends purple amethyst and golden citrine in a single crystal. It is almost entirely sourced from the Anahí Mine in Bolivia. The stone's two-tone colors are created by trace amounts of iron experiencing different oxidation states during formation.

Fascinating Facts
  • The Origin of the Name: The name is a portmanteau of Amethyst and Citrine. It is also known as "trystine" or by its historical trade name, "bolivianite". [1, 2, 3]
  • Exclusive Geography: Nearly all commercially viable, natural gem-quality ametrine comes from a single location in the remote Pantanal wetlands of eastern Bolivia, near the Brazilian border. [1, 2]
  • Hardness: With a rating of 7 on the Mohs scale, ametrine is highly durable and well-suited for everyday jewelry. [1, 2]
  • No Two Are Alike: Because the color boundaries and the blend of purple and orange hues are completely natural, every ametrine gem has its own unique color zoning.
